How to test if your Jute mallow seeds (Ayoyo seed, Ademe seed) are viable for planting.
How to test the viability of okra seeds, tomato seeds, pepper seeds, and Jute mallow seeds (Ayoyo seed, Ademe/edewu seed)
One of the conditions for a seed to germinate is the seed must be viable.
A viable seed has its embryo lives and can germinate when other conditions such as;
- moisture,
- suitable temperature,
- air, and
- enzymes are present.
Do you have pepper seeds, okra seeds, tomato seeds, or Jute mallow seeds (Ayoyo seed, Ademe/edewu seed)?
You don’t know if it is still viable or not?
Because it has been kept for a very long time.
This is what you should do to test the viability of your Ayoyo seed, Ademe/edewu seed within a few minutes.
- The first thing to do is to get some charcoal fire.
- Fetch some of the seeds about ten to fifteen of them.
- Put the seeds in the fire carefully and observe for some time.
- When the seed is viable and good for planting, the majority of the seeds you put in the fire will break to give a pop sound.
- If 12 seeds out of 15 break to give you a pop sound then the seed is very viable and you can rely on it for planting.
- But if only a few or none break to give the pop sound then the seeds are probably not viable and can not germinate well.

- Get very warm ash.
- Pour the warm ash on the Jute mallow seeds / Ayoyo seed.
- Stir it thoroughly for some time.
- The Jute mallow seeds / Ayoyo seeds will make pop sounds and the embryo will open.
- After that, sieve it from the ash.
- Now your Jute mallow seeds / Ayoyo seed is ready for sowing.
- This will cause it to germinate well.
Note that, you can also put the Jute mallow seeds / Ayoyo seed in a hot pan and roast it for some time.
